Erik Jernstrom jumps on the pod today! He is the Director of Sports Performance at EForce Sports in Portland, Oregon. He is also an adjunct professor at Linfield University and the founder of Speed Capacity Builder his new project for sub-maximally assessing fitness qualities/repeat sprint ability.
It was great to have Erik on and not only share the current projects he is working on but also share his growth in the coaching profession. Both of us have similar tracks of pursuing a career in coaching and specifically these past 7 years. I started at the University of Portland & he started creating EForce. Erik currently leads NFL off-season preparation for Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp, MLB off-season training for Cooper Hummel, Silver Medalist for the US in the 3000m Steeple Chase at the Rio Olympics, and many other high school/college student-athletes.

Joe, founder, and director of Hyper Thrive Athletics performance gym located in Sacramento. He has recently competed in the Canyons 100k, Sonoma 55k, and more upcoming races this upcoming year. Excited for you all to check out this conversation and experience Joe’s energy which is contagious.

Today’s guest of the podcast is an amazing human being & a Portland Pilot Baseball great, Eli Morse. It has been amazing to see Eli’s growth over the years since coaching him from his 2017 freshmen year, competing for 5 years, and being able to coach alongside him this past 2023 season with the Pilots!
Are you a former teammate, incoming student-athlete, high school baseball player, or someone highly interested in designing your own life? Then this episode is for you!
Eli brings so much to this conversation from lifestyle-centric career planning, being system based in life, and guidance from his playing career. Not going to lie, a lot of shoutouts in this podcast! It is hard to type this out and explain just how cool this experience was to record this episode with him!

Big day for the pod! Today’s guest is Cisco Reyes, father, husband, incredible genuine human being, and professionally tenured Associate Professor at Linfield University. He specifically focuses his work on strength and conditioning, sports science, analytics, and youth performance development. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY mentoring students to be the best they can be in the health & performance professions and in life. Cisco is also the founder of The RISE Lab, (Reyes Integrated Sports Enhancement) which specifically focuses on supporting youth athlete’s on their performance development journey.
You will love this episode because Cisco dives into applying love languages to leadership, empowering students to where to look but not what to see, and his mission as an educator. One of my personal favorite parts was we both could have talked about sports science for days, but chose to discuss developing human beings!

BIG ONE for the pod with today’s guest Colin Walters. Host of the Seeds of Success podcast and an awesome human being! I was hyped for this podcast episode after we were able to connect over the phone a few weeks prior. Colin was one of those guys that I just had so much in common with and I related to so much.
On top of the podcast, he also produces content on his YouTube channel, is an ambassador for BPN, and most recently ran the Eugene Marathon. I was fired up to learn about his journey and grateful for his questions that challenged me to think in this conversation. This will not be the last as this was only Part 1 of a series of podcasts we plan on doing together in the future.
If you loved this episode it would mean a lot if you could share it with someone, rate it on your podcast platform, and if want to learn more about topics we discussed subscribe to my weekly newsletter at bryantferate.beehiiv.com. Make sure you check out the links below to Colin’s projects!

Kyle Sammons jumps on the pod as today’s guest! Most recently Kyle was hired into the NFL by Arizona Cardinals as the Sports Science Coordinator & Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to the NFL, Kyle worked with Strive Tech and was the Coordinator of Sports Science for the University of Washington Football team under Chris Petersen & Tim Socha.
In the first half of this episode, we get in-depth on what came from Kyle’s experience with the return to performance process for two student-athletes with torn achilles. His findings through that process and following principles over methods were the driving force for this conversation. I loved the second half when Kyle shared what he learned from Chris Petersen during his time at UW and how his identity continues to evolve.

I was so stoked to finally get Ali Kershner on the podcast after our conversation over the phone a few weeks prior. Ali is currently the Director of Creative Strategy for Art of Coaching. Which is a company that specializes in educating professionals on communication and leadership in creative ways. Prior to making the jump to this new endeavor, Ali was the Head Sports Performance Coach for Stanford Women’s Basketball where she won the National Championship in 2021.
I know I am notorious for saying this but this was one of those conversations that I wish we had more time and will be scheduling a part two ASAP. I loved her willingness to share her story and how she has evolved into who she is today. As well as I believe you all will find value in the ways we unpack what communication, connecting, and identity change mean to both of us.
If you loved this episode or connected with it any way it would mean a lot if you could rate it, share it on social media, share it with a friend, or reach out to me with what you specifically loved from this conversation. Shout out to all the people who have texted me! It means a lot!
